Status of Container Number is not configurable. Once it has been created, it is set to OPEN status, and you can either close it or re-open. This is a business logic by the design.
So, you definitely need either to extend the implementation by custom coding or try workarounds with other objects (operations, resources etc.) which are involved in your business process.
