Many customers had dumps in leave requests, because SAP changed authorisation checks (amongst other things) in note 1830604
Check your ESS users' role. They need reading rights for their own record in infotype 0105 - which was not orevioysly required. You may have to add this authorisation to the profile:
Objekt P_PERNR mit AUTHC = 'R', PSIGN = 'I', INFTY = '0105', SUBTY = '*'
I seem to remember that SU53 will not give this away.
